Governor Ron DeSantis Celebrates Opening of New I-95 at Oslo Road Interchange in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla.— Today, Governor Ron DeSantis celebrated the opening of the new Interstate 95 (I-95) at Oslo Road Interchange in Indian River County. This marks a major milestone for the project, with the interchange opening to traffic one year early due to Florida’s commitment to accelerating transportation project delivery.

“Today, I was proud to announce that the new I-95 interchange at Oslo Road in Indian River County has been completed a year ahead of schedule,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Floridians cannot wait years while needless bureaucratic delays stall important infrastructure projects. This new interchange is an investment in congestion relief and public safety. Oslo Road commuters will see their drive times cut in half, and emergency response times along I-95 will be reduced by up to 56 percent.”

“Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, Florida has championed the use of innovative measures to deliver projects even faster while bringing the most value for our communities,” said FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E. “Opening this interchange one year ahead of schedule reflects this commitment and will bring major benefits to the Treasure Coast, from local residents and supply chain partners to Florida’s protected species.”

The new I-95/Oslo Road interchange, which has been a longstanding regional transportation priority, will provide direct access to I-95 for the first time from this corridor and marks Indian River County’s first new interchange in over 50 years. Along with the addition of this new interchange, Oslo Road was also widened from two to four lanes for additional capacity. The new interchange provides enhanced interstate access and provides sidewalks and bicycle lanes to better serve the growing community.

Beyond the new interchange and widening of Oslo Road, the project includes improvements and benefits throughout the corridor:

  • Safety Improvements: The project will improve emergency response times by up to 56% for incidents along I-95, provide an additional evacuation route, and reduce congestion on existing I-95 connections at Indrio Road and State Road (S.R.) 60. Additional improvements include a new bridge over I-95, intersection lighting, a new traffic signal at 66th Avenue, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and Wrong Way Vehicle Detection technology at the interchange ramps.
  • Economic Development: The project supports economic development by improving access to the Oslo Road and I-95 Commercial and Industrial Node. It also strengthens freight movement and supply chain efficiency, as Oslo Road is a designated truck route serving southern Indian River County.
  • Environmental Benefits: Right of way acquisition in the southwest quadrant of the interchange allowed for the creation of a gopher tortoise habitat, which will serve as the only relocation site in southeast Florida.
